Guest Speaker - 2015 UNSW Alumni Award winner

Dr Jacqueline Thomas has a Bachelor of Advanced Science in microbiology, a Bachelor of Arts (Politics and International Relations) and a PhD in Environmental Engineering, all from UNSW. She is a senior scientist at the Ifakara Health Institute based in Tanzania.

In Tanzania, 9% of deaths of children under the age of five are caused by poor sanitation and contaminated water. Jacqueline’s work combats this heartbreaking problem. Her research is focused on sustainable sanitation with nutrient and energy recovery and appropriate household level water treatment.

This year she is the recipient of the UNSW Alumni Award in the Science and Technology category.

Jacqueline will talk about her career to date and the work she is doing in Tanzania. She will be available for questions and conversations after the talk.
