Frank Lucien is an Associate Professor in the School of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, UNSW.

His research is concerned with fundamental and applied aspects of supercritical fluids.  He has expertise in the application of supercritical fluids to extraction processes and particle formation.  The use of supercritical fluids as media for chemical reactions is of current interest, with particular emphasis on radical polymerization processes that employ dense carbon dioxide.  Studies are concerned with reaction kinetics, control of molecular weight distributions and synthesis of polymeric nanoparticles.  The measurement and thermodynamic modelling of phase equilibria at elevated pressure is also a key feature of current research.
