This year’s showcase event for our award winning fourth year course CVEN4701 – Planning Sustainable Infrastructure –‘ The Mer Project’  -  is on Tuesday May 31, 6-8:30pm.

The course has been developed around a project with a real community on Murray (Mer) Island, Torres Strait as a real client and basis for the consulting Brief. The sustainability solutions will present student designs of energy supply, water treatment, waste management and transport systems that take into account the environmental, economic, social and cultural needs of the island community. More about the Mer Island Project can be found here

The guest speaker at the showcase event will be Josh Byrne, ABC TV presenter who'll be presenting on "Learnings from the Operation and Monitoring of a 10 Star High Performance House".

About: CVEN4701 Planning Sustainable Infrastructure is a 4th year course in the UNSW School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. It requires students in their final year to engage in a project that simulates the work they will do in professional practice, applying the knowledge gained in applied 3rd year courses to a realistic problem; causing them to integrate separately taught infrastructure components and the broader concepts of sustainability that includes social, economic and environmental perspectives.

In 2015 course providers were awarded the UNSW Vice Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence for “Approaches to teaching that influence, motivate and inspire students to learn”, as well as the Australasian Association for Engineering Education 2015 Award for Excellence in Engineering Education Engagement.
